"From the world of Viennese music and literature, the pianist Patrik Jablonski and mezzo-soprano Petra Hallberg took the listeners to the world of legends of the far-away Scandinavia. Jablonski performed the only concerto by Edvard Grieg, the Piano Concerto in A minor. Here, one can hardly talk about virtuosity of delivery (in the positive meaning of the word, however). The pianist skilfully built the mood; climaxes were non-obtrusive, while expressive, acoustic landscape painting sounded gentle and intriguing. One must not overlook the role played by the orchestra in this musical tale of the mysteries of the North; it was particularly evident in the Adagio, which captivated the listener with velvety entrances of the strings, soft and clear sound of the French horn (Adam Wolny), or melodiousness of the flute (Małgorzata Świętoń).
Petra Hallberg sang “Haugtuus”, a set of compositions performed very infrequently, as the pieces were written in a regional Norwegian dialect. The cycle – by no means the only one written by Grieg – is a sign of his admiration for the vernacular folklore and musical humbleness to the poetic text. Instruments – in the chamber ensemble line-up of seven violins, two violas, two cellos, double bass, oboe, flute, French horn, bassoon, clarinet and harp (big hand for Malwina Lipiec) – play a typically illustrative role, yet they usher in the mood of particular songs. With her warm, deep and resonant mezzo-soprano, Hallberg earned enthusiastic ovation from the Wrocław audience. It is worth noting that the soloist’s regional attire made the world of Nordic sagas charmingly closer to the listeners."
